What is Bouldering?

Bouldering is a style of rock climbing without the use of ropes or harness, carried out on smaller walls above thick matting. Once the sole domain of rock climbers, bouldering has emerged as an exciting sport and a fun, easy way for people to get into climbing.

How do I get started?

If you’ve never bouldered before then one of our induction sessions would be the perfect introduction. Covering safety, etiquette and technique you will soon have the knowledge and confidence to tackle the walls on your own. We ask that you pre-book these sessions, feel free to contact us

Can kids have a go?

Anyone aged 6 and over can climb at Oswestry Climbing Den. They will require an induction prior to climbing. This will need to pre-booked.

What should I wear?

Any loose-fitting clothing is fine, just something that allows for as much movement as possible. Most general sports clothing works great, and layers aren’t so necessary as you will soon warm up on the walls. Rock climbing shoes are recommended and can be hired on the day.

What are the rules?

All beginners must have one of our safety inductions! Our minimum age is 6 and children must be supervised by an Adult. All our climbs have been colour coded according to difficulty and are set to start from a sitting or standing position and finish with both of your hands on the final hold. This doesn’t mean you have to stick to our problems. You can make up your own climbs adding different colours to a route to make them easier. You are free to climb whatever you like however you like, just be sure you’re safe and considerate to those around you.

How long can I stay for?

Until your arms give up! At Oswestry Climbing Den, there is no time limit on how long you can climb for; once you have paid for your entry you are free to stay until we close at the end of the day. Once you feel fatigue starting to set in, you’re free to take up a comfortable spot in our seating and relax with a coffee and snack before tackling that frustrating problem once again.

Do you do group bookings?

Yes, we certainly do. Contact us anytime to discuss this as you will require coach supervison.
